A personalized, hands-on approach to Physical Therapy.
Physical Therapy at Sea Girt Spine and Rehabilitation uses a truly personalized, hands-on approach that incorporates both active therapeutic practices (exercise) and passive techniques (ultrasound technology, for example).
Therapeutic Exercise: The physical therapists at Sea Girt Spine and Rehabilitation take the time to educate patients on each individual’s particular condition, including instructions in exercises to be used both in the office and at home. We use both cutting-edge practices when it comes to physical therapy, as well as time-tested, proven exercises. Our physical therapy office incorporates exercise bikes, therabands, weights, etc.
Electrical Muscle Stimulation: EMS is used to contract the muscles using electrical impulses. This technology mimics the responsibilities of the central nervous system and has multiple benefits to physical therapy patients. In addition to relaxing muscle spasms, EMS can also re-educate the muscles to work at previous levels of functioning; increase circulation for faster healing; prevent atrophy from disuse; and improve or restore mobility.
Lumbar/Cervical Traction: The traction provided at Sea Girt Spine uses a manual approach to gently separate the bones of the spine (the vertebrae); this action often removes the pressure on nerves that is causing pain for many patients. It is also an excellent method of dealing with bulged or herniated discs.
Ultrasound: This is a passive rehabilitation technique that uses high-frequency sound waves. These sound waves generate heat by prompting vibration in the soft tissues. This increases circulation for faster healing; heat also relieves pain and reduces muscle spasms. All of these actions are geared toward the main goal of physical therapy: to increase range of motion and movement.
Hot and Cold Therapies: These two extremes are used in the physical therapy process for faster healing and pain reduction. Heat increases circulation, thus stimulating the flow of oxygen and nutrients to affected areas for faster healing. Ice therapy actually slows circulation so that inflammation, pain, and muscle spasms can be reduced. Alternating between hot and cold therapies is often a part of an overall physical therapy plan.
Our office also recommends and provides durable medical goods, including lumbar and cervical supports.
